Sweet potato steam bread (さつまいもの蒸しパン)


The time of the year when winter slowly blends into spring is a great time for sweet potato recipes!  Why not make one tonight to greet winter goodbye? Once again, another simple recipe which guarantees that you will finish making it before Spring finally arrives!

Ingredients (6-8 baking cups)

  • 200g flour
  • 20g starch
  • 200ml milk
  • 2 small spoons baking powder
  • 100g sugar
  • 150g sweet potato

Tofu Shiratama (mochi) (豆腐入り白玉 Tofu iri shiratama)

For the second recipe in a row, we are sharing another dessert recipe.   And this time, it is truly Japanese and truly easy to prepare.  Shiratama powder is often used in Japanese sweets, so this recipe would be a good starting point in learning many other Japanese desserts.  You can get in in any Japanese grocery.  If you want a visual guide, click here.  This particular recipe makes  Shiratama mochi softer and healthier. Pumpkin Pudding (かぼちゃのプリン Kabocha no purin)


Autumn is the season for sweet pumpkin in Japan.

Here is the simple easy recipe for Pumpkin Pudding to enjoy Japan’s autumn flavor!  Serve it up as a dessert during Halloween for some fun!  Its a simple trick and a sweet treat!  This is also Fukuoka Dreaming’s first entry to JapanSoc’s Japan Blog Matsuri!
